Madrid: Spanish scientists said on Sunday that a volcano on the Atlantic island of La Palma has begun to erupt. Black and white smoke is rising from the Cumbre Vieja volcanic ridge, according to visuals shown by Spain’s state broadcaster TVE. The Canary Islands Volcanology Institute has also reported an eruption of the volcano. Spanish authorities began evacuating people on Sunday from the Atlantic island of La Palma. At the same time, experts had warned of strong earthquake tremors and the danger of an explosion in the volcano.
Earthquake expected near island surface
Government experts had told that the explosion is not imminent. The risk of an earthquake has increased near the surface of the island. This island is part of the Canary Islands. Authorities have ordered evacuation of people from villages near the epicenter of seismic activity as a precautionary measure.
