President Biden will host the first quad summit in Washington on September 24, in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, outgoing Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga will participate. Asked for comment on the upcoming Quad summit, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian told a news conference that third parties should not be targeted through cooperation between countries.

In November 2017, India, Japan, the US and Australia gave shape to a pending proposal for the formation of the Quad to develop a new strategy for keeping the vital sea route open in the Indo-Pacific region. In March, President Biden organized the Quad Summit digitally. The summit of the Quad will be held amidst China’s increasing aggression in the South China Sea.
